"The whiskey took a lot of my life"
By Martin Vaaland
Genre: Country
Words and music by: Martin Våland
Guitars and backing vocal: Jarle Obrestad
1)
I've been thinking about all the times, I wasn’t there for you.
When you needed me most, I always had things to do.
And all this time, you wonder, if I even cared.
I had no answer; I know I should have been there.
2)
Then I tried to pull of, this regretful stuff.
And you had to say that, you’ve had enough.
Sometimes I wish, you’d said it before if you did, you may had more.
Love in your life and not so much of a war.
Chorus)
I know, you put up a fight.
And I know, you cried all night
Even when you knew, you was right
You never begged, please don’t go away
I was drunk and couldn’t stay.
I’m sorry my wife the whiskey took a lot of my life
3)
I hit the road, whit that travelling band. , I ran away in a Chevy van
just a drifter, not much of a man
but now I know I will do what I can all the way to the promise land
I’m sorry my wife that the bottle got so much of my life

Martin, I really liked the flow of this song. It has a wonderful melody and the lyrics are very touching. It is a bit long for your average country song but is plays well. ----- Paul

Hey Martin welcome to the ramp, your production is excellent and vocals are great, I would be speeding up this song another 10 clicks at least, it tends to drag for me, editing is good, don't need another chorus at the end. love the instrumental see what you can do with the phrasing of the voice for variation, cause the song seems to lull me into sleep and doesn't really hold my attention. thanks for your review of my song Virginiaflame

Excellent vocals (lead and backing). There was a bit of variation in phrasing between lead and backing vocal (to be technical). Clean production. Strong chorus. I really dug the instrumental. Rich.

Nice vocals/instrumentation. You can'ttell you are from Norway, you sound like you are from the good old USA to me. Good luck with this and all that you do. I hope your daughter gets on well with her projects too. Anna ( Harvina )

Martin, This a beautiful song and one that is now on my favorite list... I completely disagree with virgina flame... this song has the makings of a great song,, it doesnt drag, its supposed to be soulful and melodic...Im a professional artist /songwriter and I think you nailed it.. it shows that Norway writers can nail a beautiful country song.... It gets a vote from this outlaw rebel.... cool work fretclimbers....Johnny
